What is an Adult Day Care Center?

Adult day care is a planned program of activities designed to promote well-being through socialization within a safe, supportive and cheerful environment monitored by social workers and health professionals. Nutritious meals that accommodate special diets are included in a program that typically runs Monday through Friday during daytime hours.

Adult day care centers offer a variety of benefits, from providing older adults with an opportunity to get out of the house and receive mental, physical and social stimulation, to affording caregivers a much-needed break.

● Elderly who are ambulatory (independent and able to care for themselves)

● Those who can benefit and enjoy socialization with their own peers

●Those who may be cognitively-challenged but do not require 24-hour supervision (like early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and normal memory loss)

● Research shows that elderly who are socially active are healthier, more mentally alert and much happier

● Adult Day Services can delay and often eliminate the need for more extensive care such as those provided by assisted living facilities, full-time nursing homes, or in-home care providers

● Adult Day Services is a cost-effective solution. Clients may even qualify for financial assistance based on their individual circumstances

● Adult Day Services combat social isolation and are an important first step in staving off the debilitating effects of depression
